Today, we have a special announcement to share from our Executive Director, Kamyon Conner.
“I am filled with a cluster of emotions as I share with you all that I begin my sabbatical leave starting September 5, 2023. I will be taking some much-needed time away from work to savor joyful moments and deepen my connection with radical rest.
The last two years have been historic for TEA Fund and challenging for many of us working in reproductive health, rights and justice in Texas. Abortion bans threatened to strip us of our safety and autonomy. The blows from SB8 and the Dobbs decision have been devastating and heartbreaking. Living this harsh reality, coupled with my own personal losses of both my sister and father in a short time period, have reminded me that we have to soak up all the gravy life has to offer. I am ready to recharge and restore.
Working tirelessly to fight for abortion access in Texas has its challenges, but mostly it is filled with the strength of fierce advocates, compassionate leaders, innovative collaborations and a whole lot of the joy of being in-community. To continue in this movement in Texas requires an investment of our future time, energy and care. I’m resting now for our continued pursuit for abortion freedom.
Rest is radical and joy is our birth right. I’m looking forward to more of it in the days to come. I am excited to see what type of leader I will be on the other side of this sabbatical. I am confident that this time of self-care and efforts of self-preservation will support my work in sustainable ways. I have been so honored to work alongside everyone on our TEAm and I am so grateful that they will be keeping things moving in exciting ways this fall while I am away.”
