About TEA Fund

Texas Equal Access Fund offers both financial and emotional support to individuals in North & East Texas who lack the means to access abortion and other reproductive care. Firmly committed to the principles of reproductive justice, TEA Fund fiercely advocates for the right to access all reproductive health options, including abortion, birth control, and parenting support.Texas Equal Access Fund’s mission is to provide funding to low-income people in the northern region of Texas who are seeking legal, out-of-state abortions and cannot afford it, while simultaneously working to end barriers to abortion access through community education and shifting the current culture toward reproductive justice. 

About you: 

We are looking for a Helpline Fellow to support our Helpline and Text Line. In your role, you will work alongside the TEA Funds programs team to provide our clients with compassionate support via our Helpline and Text Line, follow-up wellness calls, and funding support. You will gain experience leading, facilitating, managing programs, and developing relationships with community partners.

The fellowship requires a 12-15 hours commitment per week. The position is remote with flexible hours. The fellowship will start on May 6, 2024, and end on August 26, 2024, and last approximately 16 weeks. You will be compensated with a $3,000 stipend for your time. You will receive $1,500 at the beginning of the fellowship and $1,500 upon completion. 

Helpline Fellow Responsibilities:

As the Helpline Fellow, you will play an integral part in providing our clients and callers with support and assistance. The tasks required of you include the following: 

  • The Helpline Fellow will complete all relevant paperwork before the start of the fellowship. 
  • Schedule weekly check-ins with the Intake Director and the Programs Coordinator. 
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the Programs Team.
  • Utilize Salesforce to process intake, update funding information, and log calls.
  • Answer callers and texters seeking funding assistance, emotional support, infant care supplies, and resources.
  • Return all helpline calls on our funding days (Mondays and Thursdays).
  • Utilize Slack to communicate with people on the Text Line and provide support to volunteers.
  • Utilize EveryAction to communicate with TEA Fund volunteers and supporters.
  • Assist with creating and facilitating training for volunteers before the upcoming quarter.
  • Assist with recruiting clinic partners.
  • Participate in an offboarding evaluation process toward the end of the fellowship. 
  • The Helpline Fellow will assist with other helpline/textline-related administrative tasks as needed. 

Requirements:

  • Must be located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area
  • Must be willing to travel to cities within the metroplex for in-person events
  • Must be able to commit to 12-15 hours per week (flexible schedule)
  • Must have access to a computer and high-speed internet
  • Proficient with Google Office applications
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A deep commitment to reproductive justice, abortion access, and social justice 

Preferred:

  • Fluency in Spanish (highly preferred)
  • Experience with Salesforce or a similar database  
  • Outreach or helpline experience 
  • Prior knowledge of the abortion landscape in Texas
